"The East Coast Legends Didn't Pass The Torch"

I been saying this shit for a decade plus now

The reason NYC fell the fuck off is because no one who matters that reps NYC actually lives in NYC

Because of that u not interacting w the next generation

Who was they supposed to pass the torch to???...6-9???..….Playboi??....
Fivio???

After Fab....idk who would even be worthy of carrying the torch in NY....maybe East would get my vote but he clearly doesn't want it anyway

NY definitely has a lost generation of rappers that just couldn’t and wouldn’t amount to shit or had a spark when they started. Only thing I can compare the shit to is that timeframe between when Ali retired and Mike Tyson came into being during the late 70’s-mid 80’s. Nothing but fringe contenders fighting for belts. Sad thing is NY don’t got a Mike Tyson in sight and it’s been nearly two decades. Shit, they don’t even got a Larry Holmes.

I feel NYC more cut throat. Most of them will only promote other artists if they stand to financially gain from it. If these new artists wont sign to them or sell them the record, they'll act like they never heard it.

Not everyone, but prob the majority of people in the music scene there.

New York was purposely sabotaged. They stopped pushing the New York sound and then when the artists tried to adapt to the new sound they got accused of biting. They get no play for making New York sounding music, and no play for trying to sound like the south. A whole generation got fucked over overnight. There is no torch to pass and even if there was one there is no one to pass it to.

At the end of day, nyc created hip hop and dominated early on because all the labels were here

But the fact of the matter is 60% of the blacks in America live in the south. It was only a matter of time before South took over

Thats what happens when you leave the source of the city's radio promotion in the hands of a nigga that ain't even from there.

Too much internal beef. Competition is one thing but there was too many instances of artists going out their way to using their leverage to keep other artist down. Then ironically 50's rise was the real end because he truly came with a "nobody but my team should eat" mentality. It's amazing the ability to collaborate he's shown in the business world was rarely reflected in his music career

None of that should stop the radio from playing the artists music. Atlanta, NO, Hou etc had their fair share of internal beef and their radio stations still supported their artists.

Well..when a bunch of NY DJs got record deals and started beefing with each other over playing or not playing each other artists that definitely hurt. Then turning your main radio station over to along with Ebro and Rosenberg becoming the faces of what was the biggest rap station didn't help.
