I have been debating whether to make a thread about this. Since the story is not going away, I said, why not.
Basically, South Africans looked at the name of one of the contestants in this year's Miss South Africa pageant and immediately realized that she's a) not of South African ancestry (though she seems to be SA-born) and b) probably Nigerian, and then all hell broke lose. The backlash was vicious. Not going to lie, I was surprised how bad it was. South Africans by and large don't seem like non-South Africans, especially Nigerians. Just saying that it is terrible that a people who had such international support for their anti-apartheid struggle should turn out to be so xenophobic.
This is what I mean I talk about black people hating the Devil but also wanting to be the Devil. Like some of us can see how problematic white behavior is but then will turn around and exhibit that same behavior towards others.
