Two top Iranian officials directly responded to President Trump’s threat to blockade the Strait of Hormuz on social media on Sunday. Mohsen Rezaei, a former commander who is now a senior adviser to the Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, said Iran had “large, untouched levers” to counter any naval blockade and that the country would not be pressured “with tweets and imaginary plans.” Iran’s top negotiator and the speaker of its Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, separately warned American consumers: “Soon you’ll be nostalgic for $4–$5 gas.”
 
U.S. forces will begin blockading maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports at 10 a.m. Eastern time Monday, U.S. Central Command announced on Sunday, in what appeared to be a step back from President Trump’s earlier vow to blockade the entire Strait of Hormuz. Trump had declared on social media that the U.S. would be blockading “any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz.” But Central Command said in its statement that U.S. forces “will not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports.”

I keep seeing people talk about how our military isn't all it's cracked up to be, and this war is showing that.

Yes and no. I think people miss nuance when it comes to stuff like this. It's true our military isn't as good as it has been hyped up to be for decades. That's true about everything in America to be honest. That said, our military is very powerful. We're not losing this war because Iran is more powerful than us or because our tech doesn't work. We're losing this war because the people in charge are idiots. They didn't plan, have no clear goals, and underestimated the enemy. We've seen more powerful forces take losses to seemingly inferior opponents a lot over history, and it's usually because of missteps by the bigger force. The same is true here.

Were losing this war because it is impossible to win.

The American military is more powerful than ever. No one can crack Americas defenses, and it could take on Russia and China and Iran on a 3 on 1 in conventional wars.

The issue is that the the last conventional war was the Korean War and the US has lost every war since except maybe the first gulf war.

Its impossible to win when your win condition is to destroy Irans military and regime and their win condition is stay alive.

Unless you go in guns blazing and don't give a fuck about who dies, you can't win. And that would break all international laws. Which we clearly don't give a fuck about international law, but that would break international law on a scale that not even the US can get away with.

And there is the problem.

The US military can fuck up Iran military and Iran could do 0 damage to the US military going forward and still win.

Its not about who is or isn't the strongest military.

Its about your win conditions are impossible.

There is a reason why the US was funding a bunch of these countries and sending them aid packages. Its way easier to get a country on your side economically than it is militarily.

But of course these mfers got rid of USAID first before anything else. They really think a strong military is all you need even when America has lost all major wars starting with the Vietnam war.
