Has Social Media Ruined Battles In HipHop?

Hip hop don’t have battles. They have real life feuds

I’m tired of seeing the lies of “competition” “battle” when it’s not that that at all.

It’s just two people that don’t like each other talking shit about each other.

I get it. If people just enjoy the musical aspect of it and left it at that, it wouldn’t be as bad.

That’s not the age we live in though unfortunately.

But on the other hand the Drake/kendrick thing was supposed to be a “rap” battle. Put the lyrics on wax and let the people decide who’s better. It got personal and that’s when it went left. I think there’s still a place for it but it won’t be able to get there because everything is taken as a slight or disrespect.

This man 60 years old so I do understand he's not into battles/feuds anymore but that will always be part of hip hop.

He didn’t say he didn’t enjoy the music that came from it. He said he didn’t enjoy the discourse outside of it.
The internet didn't do anything to incite things further, it was those two dudes. Picking sides is what fans do from Pac/Biggie, Jay/Nas hell KRS/Shan.

The worst part about every fandom is the fans. Fans... Especially Internet fans ruin everything. They are just too obsessive and loud with extreme opinions. Like everybody isn't a expert, but because they have sm platform, they present themselves as experts and it creates very ignorant and toxic exchanges.

So yes, with SM simple battles escalate and create wild narratives.. But also, it could be just cuz we're getting older and we know it's never that serious. It's almost like WWE in a way... Yeah nas and Jay had a battle.... But we also knew at the end of it all they would likely shake hands. As they did. Several of collaborations after the beef.

Beans and Jada cool these days.

But the way social media responds to these shits today... It's just cringe and very excessive. Niggas was talking about kids, being dead beat parents, pedophile accusations. Shit was wild.

Why tf are y'all acting like rap battles just started getting personal and disrespectful.

Shits been like that for 30+ years. The " I'm a better MC than you" battles died out a long time ago.
