That's the dilemma the message of the film is supposed to be "sexual freedom what you like shouldn't make you feel ashamed (within reason)" the scene when they had a fight and her husband said it's just male desires and he said it's an old fashioned way of thinking some women want this. Was eye opening to her husband.
Now if they do the realistic ending then the message of the film gets lost. She found sexual freedom but in that process she lost everything.
So I agree with what you're saying but to some the film in hindsight has no risk of consequences
