It's about the contract are y'all niggas slow? Also to piggy back off that, if you're a new artist signed to a label the label puts up all the money for you to get your music out. Meaning promotion, production, travel, makeup, clothing and a place to live.
If and when your album sells and makes money the label needs to get their money back off the top plus whatever else to make a profit. That's not you getting jerked that's them getting their money back and making a profit. Now it's up to you to look over your contract and negotiate your contract so you can know your splits.

They can also backdoor talent and overestimate expenses. My brother had a production deal with Columbia and Roc Nation. He did work on J Cole's first album, Marsha Ambrosious, a few Beyonce joints, and some other ish. He made the bulk of the beat to T.I.'s Live Your Life, but they stuck him to co-production credits and barely paid him. This is Bad Boy we're talking about... that nigga owes dead ppl money.
