By helpful you mean a team brought in a black candidate that they had no legit interest in, just so they could meet the requirement... and ended up giving him the job?

20 years with minimal impact isn't good just because it possibly wasn't NO impact. I'm not saying the should scrap it. But they need to do something with it besides pretending like it's doing something to help.

I think the question I have for you is which black head coaches has it gotten a job?

Here is one example: Marvin Lewis being hired by the Bengals in 2003.

The powers that be in Cincinnati have gone on record saying that they hired him after interviewing him to satisfy the rule, even though they were actually planning to hire someone else.

I've never heard that. Break me off a link. But let's go on with calling that true for now. 1 coach in 20 years is an effective rule?

I look at this way.

Problem looked at in 2002/2003: Not enough black head coaches in the NFL. Only around 2 or 3.

Solution: In 2002/2003 Rooney Rule is put in place

2025 update: There are currently 4 black head coaches. The problem is still pretty much the same after 22 years of the solution being in place... so it's been an ineffective solution.
