The originial of this is the first horror movie I have memory of as a kid I never knew what it was until a few years ago tho after seeing a gif

Was gonna go see this today but the only seats available are in the front row! Shit blew my mind how sold out it is in my area. Small theater though. Will buy tickets for Saturday most likely. Definitely seeing this soon

I loved this movie. What a physical performance from Lily-Rose Depp. There was no CGI or tricks involved, that was all her during the scenes where she's possessed. The presence of Nosferatu lingers throughout the film, props to the score and sound design to emphasize that. It's a beautifully shot film too. Willem Dafoe gives an adrenaline boost to the cast with his role in this and Bill Skarsgard.....the way he's able to get himself into these dark roles. Props to the makeup team cause you can't even tell thats him behind the grotesque figure

Spoilers Within

This was not it. Saw the movie last night and I put it alongside Longlegs for worst horror movie I have seen in recent years.

Things it did well: atmosphere. You felt that claustrophobic, unnerving shit in your soul in spots. The use of shadows and light were all phenomenal, and that's from someone who doesn't even usually chart that type of thing.

Where it fucked up: same as Paranormal Activity, the supernatural entity with a hard on for the female protagonist. Man has been "alive" as a creature of the night for how long but somehow does not know how long it takes to drain a body of blood, how close he is to daylight, or to black out the room during feeding? That's a lot of missteps around seemingly the only thing that can kill you.

Also I felt like it was an attempt to roll out a sexual empowerment trope because even though Depp was forced to make a choice in 3 days to save everyone, a false choice given the duress her character was under, she still chose the time and Orlock went out like most young men would being a slave to his urges, which to me eradicated all his aura. Like if she made the choice of sacrifice and ingested something to poison her blood. OK. He couldn't exactly predict that. Losing track of time is some high school/college freshmen thirst ish I wouldn't do at 35-40, let alone however old he is. Demon brokered a whole bootleg real estate deal, shipped himself FedEx, and then said, "I'm fucking on something! By any means necessary!"

PRAISE: With Nosferatu Director and writer Eggers solidifies himself as another effective talent that can take an over one hundred year genre and breathe new life into it. In this story an already haunted and off balance Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp) has a strong connection to the mysterious Count Orlock (Bill Skarsgard) that will lead to all types of bloody madness. The cast including Nicholas Hoult Aaron Taylor-Johnson,Emma Corin, Ralph Ineson, and Willem Dafoe turn in great performances. They are called upon to not only have dramatic performances but also physical ones that are mesmerizing. From body movements to facial expressions of outright fear. Skarsgard along with the Direction of Eggers makes Nosferatu scary and then some. From the hissing and wheezing, his hands and voice and finally his physical form. Eggers wants to wrap the viewer into what's happening in a scene and over and over again he succeeds. Whether it's a scene of outright madness,a bloody kill,or a scene filled with shadows and darkness that he adds a quick flash of lightning to he really pulled me in. There are tons of disturbing images right to the end that some may find off putting ,especially those that are faint of heart. The film even got some nervous laughs out of me. The film brought back great memories of stories of vampires and Dracula i read as a teen. I think that helped me and likely others enjoy the film even more as the legend of vampires are brought out in the film in certain sinister situations and story paths. The music by Robin Carolan is also effective especially those final musical notes as the film closes.

PROBLEMS: Some moments felt a bit overdone.

Nosferatu joins my list of one of the best of 2024

Scale of 1 to 10 a 10+

I don't really remember much of the original. Was curious if they'd let him win

So was it the sun or her doing something to her blood this time? Kind of surprised this powerful being loss track of time

Surprised they showed him killing the kids. Hollywood doesn't usually do that

How did the annoying husband die? He was on her dead body on some necrophilia type stuff but he also died

I don't think I've seen Bill Skarsgard with a mustache lol

Honestly dragged in the beginning.
