I've seen the series because my wife watches it, but I never really got into it. From what I've seen though, the tone of the series doesn't really match the movies if that makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised if they act like the series happens in its own separate universe.


Off topic a little, but they should have called the Chan/Smith joint The Kung Fu Kid for multiple reasons.
