Yeah they've been toying with the idea of a nova movie/series for a long ass time. I think I recall it being in the rumors since around the ultron era. I could be mistaken but most certainly it was well before infinity war got released.

Dope that they got annihilus as a possible villain though. Would be awesome to see him on screen

This. There had to be some sort of resistance. Thanos had the space stone, but that power stone on Xandar is what made him be able to destroy ships and planets. While they obviously lost the battle, they must have had a hell of a defense and just got overwhelmed.
