The Syrian government appears to have fallen; end to the 50-year rule of the Assad family

The issue is how many minority groups live in Syria.

For decades Syria was ruled by the minority (Alewites) and they were ruthless against the majority and other minority groups that did not align with them.

The Assad regime was not a good regime. They were full of corruption and murder and full of prejudice.

The issue that I have right now though is that the new incoming regime isn't better. The group in power is gonna change but they are gonna be just as ruthless to all the other groups living in Syria, maybe even more so.

They are talking a good game, but lets see. Syria is going to need a ton of money to rebuild and they will need economic ties. If the US is smart, they'll find a seat at the table and provide the money. But in reality, it'll be Turkey and the Arab countries. Turkey will want the new regime to subjugate the Kurds. Saudi Arabia will want the new regime to not give rights to the Shiite sects.

It's just gonna be a rinse and repeat of the last 50 years with new leadership and a change in targets.

Hell no to Western Intervention. We have seen that story play out and it always leads to the rise of right wing governments in the middle east, ala Afghanistan and Iran.

My bro, the situation here isn't the same. Im not saying the US should interfere.

Here is the situation.

Syria has Sunni Muslim Arabs, Kurds, Alewites, Christians, Druze, Assyrians, Shiites, and more.

The group that just took over the country is known to kill all of them just because they don't follow their strict ass interpretation of Islam.

The religious right wing government is what just won the war.

I'm trying to remain positive that they will be down to negotiate with the West to allow everyone to live in peace rather than say fuck the West, cut all ties, and become just another Islamist country where you either follow their way of life or get persecuted.

Syria needs as much foreign aid as it can get, I'm hoping the West can provide that aid but in exchange have watch dogs to ensure the minority rights arent getting trampled.

But all of this is me trying to remain very very optimistic that the situation on the ground is not going to be what it's definitely gonna be, which is no rights or education for women, and Sunni Arab men will be first class citizens, all other Sunni men will be second class citizens, and everyone else will live under extreme suffering.

Hope it doesn't turn into another Libya but good for the Syrian people

I feel like this is going to be a disaster though
