The Syrian government appears to have fallen; end to the 50-year rule of the Assad family

I dont follow much about this... what's this mean for them? Infighting and instability? Who will replace that government?

I haven't followed this story for a while, but this started with the Arab spring movement when several middle eastern and African countries started protesting against dictatorships. Basically rebel forces want more of a democracy and are actually quite organized. The US is/was helping rebel forces and Russia was supporting Assad.

I thought at one point the US was providing weapons and some other things, but you're probably are correct about Turkey's help as well...

The U.S. does provide support to some, mainly the Kurdish-led SDF, but HayŹ¼at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) were the initial instigators of this offensive and are the ones who are currently in the driver's seat. The leader of HTS is Abu Mohammad al-Julani and the U.S. has a $10 million bounty on his head as he was once the emir of Al-Nusra. Some of the groups that the U.S. has supported are considered terrorists by the Turkish (YPJ, etc.) so they started supporting rebels groups more aligned with their interests and these are the ones that just kicked Assad out. Some of the Turkish-backed groups have butted heads with the U.S. sponsored
groups during this offensive.

Right now it seems the country is split between the Rojava/SDF (largely U.S.-supported), the Syrian Salvation Government/Opposition (largely Turkish-supported), and Israel in the Golan Heights.

Under the umbrella of the above groups, sans Israel, there are a bunch of different groups with their own unique interests. It's honestly a mess how many different groups there are but that's conflict :\
