Goat Debate: NBA Players vs Media

Former players are starting to call out the media agenda (SAS, bitch ass nick wright, etc) in the Goat debate.

Not too long ago, guys like Dr. J, John Salley, Bird, and others says KAREEM was the GOAT.

I mean.....meh.

It was always funny and wild to me when a person would say Bron will never be more than #2 bc he's not like Jordan, while completely ignoring Kobe, who was the closest thing to him.

Like damn dawg I'm the LeBron Stan here why do I gotta help you with your argument?

Kobe being the closest thing to Mike is like saying California is closer to New York than saturn is. I don’t think he’s properly ranked.

Sadly I trust a lot of the voting media members over a lot of the players because they aren’t as biased.

A lot of the players are super biased because they are friends with each other or don’t like certain players. Just looking at a lot of these former players podcast that have popped up over the last few years proves this

There are a few observations I make any time these convos get brought up.

First, the debate around who is better when it comes to the best of the best is really dumb. Kobe and Bron were both at like the top 1% of the top 1%. When a player is that good, the amount where one is better than the other is all pretty much none measurable.

Second, the goat debate and whose was the best debate should be treated as two different things. Basketball is a team sport and not just the 15 man roster, but we're talking about coaching, training staff, ownership, GM etc. The better player can end up having less career accomplishments depending on the team they got drafted too or traded too and decided going too.

Third, former players don't sit and watch basketball like us fans do. I'm sure some of them do, but for the most part former players enjoy talking about the game more than watching the game, so their analysis around this and most other shit is usually garbage.

As a Laker fan, Kobe is not a Top 5 GOAT let alone #1. If you're a Lakers fan and watched the team, it's hard to say Kobe was the best when he had Shaq by his side, who was probably the best on the team when they were winning. Once Shaq is gone, Kobe struggled badly to win. Of course he had some garbage squads before Gasol and Odom, but even when he had a decent team Kobe was notorious for shooting the Lakers out of a game. Kobe would look off four teammates, take a crazy contested shot and miss.

Being young and old enough to have watched Kobe and Lebron's career and there is no way you think Kobe left a better legacy than Lebron. When Lebron went back to Cleveland and won a ring, that especially solidified the fairy tale ending. Then to go to the GOAT franchise and win a ring in what most NBA players admit was one of the most difficult settings to compete in...i can't wait for this man's biopic.

The two best players I've seen hands down are MJ and Kobe. I like what Kwame said, which is why must we dimished black stars all the time. The same isn't done to white QBs.

The GOAT is MJ, everyone else owns eras. Mikan in the 50s, Russell/Wilt 60s, Kareem 70s, Magic/Bird 80s, MJ 90s, Kobe 00s, Lebron 10s.

In regards to Kobe vs Lebron, I'll just ask this question......when both had good supporting casts who won more? To me that says all. Kobe with just him and Shaq won 3 in a row. Kobe with Pau won back 2 back and nearly threepeated. If the NBA doesn't screw LA over the CP3 trade then Kobe probably had 7 or 8 rings. Lebron with Wade/Bosh/Ray could only match Kobe + Pau. Kobe + AD would have 3 rings by now, who are we kidding? Does anyone think Kobe who used to torch the Spurs would have trouble with Denver's defense?
