FEATURED Is 2024 The Beginning Of A New Golden Era In HipHop?

test
Naw, 2024 was crazy... He's not off base.

I found myself listening and liking more current songs than previous years

With the exception of the Kendrick/Drake beef nothing else about this year felt any different compared to the last few since the pandemic. I think female rappers are more in the forefront now than ever before. Take that for what you will. If there’s any era that’s coming up right now it’s that. Definitely feels like they’re more female stars than men (and some of them are honestly better). There’s still good music out here but nothing groundbreaking. There’s a reason why a lot of people don’t even think a classic album has dropped this decade yet.

Niggas are geeked up over some meh diss records and the fact we had a ton of quality albums this year after coming off the worse year in rap in 50 yrs??? Low IQ take

Not too far off to be honest. Internally California had its best year since mid 2000s. If you really tuned in Ebk Jaybo had a hot year for non mainstream California. Kendrick held it down mainstream and dethroned the mainstream King. Glorilla & Sexy Red had solid years. Glorilla is actually restoring a feeling if you can be objective to her music. Atlanta's microwavable music format is no longer hogging up the scene. DJ Khaled and the rest of the super friends phased out. These are just my observations. Not too wild of a take at all.

2020s is the decade of female rappers, at least the first half
Is it though?

The acts the get all the attention don’t move units or sell out venues

It’s a shame Nicki at her old age still gotta carry the spotlight for females

Woman scene is still underground (the ones that can actually rap). They need the push and not folks like Meg or Cardi. Meg winning Grammys for shit music and no real fan base.

This take is pretty spot on. I've seen people say "We are in the era of the females in hip-hop" but the only woman who is an actual star is Nicki. The other girls like Meg, Latto, Ice Spice, etc dont sell records and their shows arent exactly hot tickets. Meanwhile Nicki can still sell records and sell out arenas. Cardi isnt even in the discussion cause shes been too scared to put out an album.

How did he dethroned the mainstream king when Drake still is the most listened to rapper every month? 😂
