But she kept killing them after his death, so I don’t think it was just to keep Death away, unless she was doing it to keep herself alive too. But it seems to me like witches live a long time anyway so what was the point after her son died?

I think she was just power-hungry, almost like an addiction for her. If you notice at the end, she doesn't want to face her son cause she's ashamed he'll judge everything she's done

I thought she took their power.. so it made her a more powerful witch along with long life *shrugs*
 
Yeah I don’t think it was to keep Death away. I think she was just a real shitty person. She already didn’t have a coven so she was probably doing that before.
