Lupe fans overestimate the importance of pure technical ability because Lupe's commercial viability died after his 3rd album.

Then they falsely try to make an artist as plain and confrontational as Kendrick Lamar as Lupe's spiritual successor when Kendrick never hid behind obtuse metaphors, triple entendres or East Asian philosophies.

Lupe is the epitome of nerd rap for Black people that grew up watching anime on Adult Swim and hated Rack City but loved everything the Gorillaz dropped.

Just like present day Eminem is "real Hip Hop" for White people that never liked Hip Hop music, grew up on South Park and Linkin Park and used to unironically saying nigga.

It be the same rotation of dudes waffling and projecting their ideas and thoughts about Lupe, his fans and the "kind of black people" who supposedly listen to Lupe. They dont miss a beat. Ironically they too old for the type of hip-hop they listen too.

You don’t gotta add sauce on to what Lupe already does. It’s Lupe himself who compares himself to Kendrick sometimes and knows that Lupe is the superior lyricist. It’s not even an argument. And i fuck with Kendrick.

it’s the Eminem comparison that I don’t get from you. The fan bases are different. People appreciate Lupe because of what he does not in spite of it. If Lupe lost you along the way, it’s not because his “commercial viability”. It’s because of the fact that sometimes, no matter how great the artist, they lose fans because they outgrow them for whatever reason.

The fan bases aren't different lol.

It's the same, super technical rapper that had a commercial fall off and became increasingly inaccessible as they pursue their own pet projects with all their idiosyncrasies that make me them commercially unviable.

The Fahrenheit mixtapes to Food & Liquor was probably the greatest run ever.

And please, you can go on the Lupe subreddit and see Lupe stans quietly resent Kendrick and his success because in their mind, Lupe did it first lol.

The fan bases are very different. You are comparing Eminem’s fan base, who a great majority are considered not to be a fan of hip hop to Lupe’s. Seems like a weird comparison.
