Horrorcore had like a year run....Remember the Cella Dwellas first single Land of the Lost was that horror shyt, dungeons and dragons, then they was willies moving weight and whipping foreigns the next single...lol

While Snap music was fun at the time, that shit was terrible. Like a few have said it lowered the bar big time and it's affects can still be felt imo. It lead to ringtone raps which ultimately lead to shorter tracks which fits perfectly with tiktok raps. And in the long run I think it hurt the Atlanta music scene. Crunk music felt like a legit monster musically. Then it was like "What can we do next to keep attention on Atlanta?". Next thing you know we getting Laffy Taffy raps. Horrible downgrade in hindsight.

And fuck the dude that said Hyphy. That shit was unintentionally a celebration of life for Bay Area culture before shit got all gentrified and fucked up.

Again, people were selling big numbers with weak bars before Snap. Vanilla Ice existed. Snap was not supposed to be some super lyrical subgenre. It was party music, and party music has always been simplistic. I'm not understanding how you draw the line at Snap as being where that kinda music began.

I'm not understanding how you're drawing the connection between Snap and Trap either. Whether you like or dislike TI, Jeezy, Gucci, etc..., you can't say thier music is as simplistic as Snap. So then what's your beef with Trap? You think it's staying somehow makes it bad automatically?

They just want to blame the South

lol bruh I don’t think snap lasting impacts there at all. My white tee did not lower the bar
There’s a long running gag where people make fun of rappers that came out from the 70s up to a certain part of the 80s, where people were rapping in such a simplistic way. Hannibal Burress was the one who was most notably doing it.

As time progressed, you started to see more and more rappers begin to put a better spin on this art we know as rap music. So from the mid 80s until the mid 2000s, we had a part in the middle of that known as the golden era of rap music, you could probably call that entire era of the golden era, but typically it’s the 90s. Where you had literal God like rap artists. So in this era, you could not come out and put out music that did not have elite level lyricism, and be taken seriously. Sure you could wrap, but you were not seeing as someone who needed to be taken seriously, so guys like MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice were seen as pop stars that rapped.

So to say that it didn’t have lasting impacts like that at all, bro do you understand that rap music took a deep dive and it’s not even up for debate? Why do we have a mumble rap era? It’s because certain kids came out with music and they essentially sunk the standards that you needed to have in order for you to be seen as a serious rapper. So absolutely it’s the worst era of rap. We went from all of the super lyrical geniuses, to guys just rapping and it lyrically sounds like they’re coloring outside of the lines.

It’s okay to say the south is responsible for this.

I don’t understand why it’s so hard to admit that the south help lead current rap music and being a lesser version of what it was. We had intricate, lyrical, amazing artists that were rapping, and then all of a sudden the south took over and when they did it ushered in some of the weakest bars you can think of.

Clifford Harris, is the exception. Wayne is the exception. Even Young Jeezy and Rick Ross, as well as Gucci, are very simplistic in their approach to how they make rap music. Where guys like Jay would make mafioso rap, sound dark and troublesome, someone like Nas would make it sound very lush and extensive. Same thing will Ghostface, Raekwon and the Notorious B.I.G. Young Jeezy is as bare bones and basic of a mafioso drug rap artist you can think of. All that does is reiterate my point. That when they took over, the genre took a huge dip.

Well it’s not the south fault that east coast kids stopped liking timberland hoody rap. And let’s not forget Dipset who had some of the most simple shit out but was strictly east coast in origin. Ante Up was a simple song.

Dipset where never seen as the pinnacle of east coast rap music.

Ante Up was 2000, plenty of lyrical rappers were available then.

Again the south helped usher in a weaker era of rap music and it’s okay to admit that
