Why Do White People Call Marijuana "Pot"?

From my experience, Black people call it "weed" which makes sense because it's a plant. There's other slang words like Buddha, Ganja, Trees, Smoke, etc.

But White people seem to call it "Pot". How does that make sense?
 
Call it weed/skunk/bud. Only ever heard someone call it pot if they’re from an older generation.

I've always wondered this too. Its always from my parents generation that I hear it from. Everyone i know calls it weed or dro thats my age. I wonder what the kids are calling it.
