How did Hop get from America to Russia? The only portal available was to the upside-down. The American is more than likely Dr. Brenner. He has the knowledge to open that dimension and the Russians were using him. Hop is was looking at the opening to the Upside-Down, the only place he has a chance to survive. He’s good enough to do so, he’s already been there once.

Exactly, he jumped into the upside down and got through to Russia. The upside down is probably a shorter distance between Hawkins and Russia than the real world. Like you get to a point in Hawkins and there's a door direct to Russia or even other locations.

Someone on this podcast I listen to even suggested a time travel element. Like he might have gone back in time or something.
 
Hop ain't dead. There was a ladder in front of the machine.
Plus all those Russians that didn't die just suddenly disappeared?
Nah they had a plan in place and Hop is with them.
Also don't forget El lost her powers so she can't look for him.
I see a lot of theories saying the American is the doctor from season 1 which I don't believe.
You don't show the body and have a credits scene like that for no reason.

Hop is wit them.

Them Russians got tf up outta there quick b4 the Army...who showed up late as all hell...got there.

I think either he found a way to sneak outta there b4 the explosion.

Or...the Russians snatched him on his way out.

OR...he could've dipped in the portal b4 it closed to escape the blast. So next season when El finally regain her powers...she realizes Hop is alive, and was stuck in the upside down this whole time. Therefore launching a plan to get him out.

That’s what I think..

Saving Hop from the Upside-Down but she has to stay inside to close and destroy it. Remember, that shadow thing wants her.. it ain’t over until El is dead and that world is dead. She’s gonna sacrifice herself to save all those she loves. It’s written on the walls

there are other kids with powers out there tho. I hope they explore that more next season. They should be a bit familiar with the upside down as well
