OPINION Why are you still using your debit card?

Man speaking of credit, the other day I get a email saying I missed a payment and my credit took a 40 point hit.

At first im like yo wtf? How did I fuck up that bad? I look it up and it turns out they had me not paying this store card I got after I bought clothes. It showed I didnt pay for 60 days. The balance showed $6.

At this point im heated cause I know I paid that shit. Called them and ask whats up. At first the smug bastard was acting like I fucked that up. I was like does it make sense to you that I would pay $302.15 and not make the $6 payment? Told him to read off the history of charges and payments starting in May.

Dude said, on the 1st of May you had a $0 balance, on May 6th, you made a $302.15 purchase. On May 18th you made a $302.15 payment and you balance was $0 and on May 26th they charged you $6 in interest.

So basically they charged me $6 interest on a $0 balance and then took me to collections after I didnt pay for 60 days.

Now dude is apologising and coping a plea, "im sorry sir it seems like it was a system error"

I was like maaaaan your system error cost me 40 points on my credit score. Shit dipped like crazy. You need to fix it.

Anyway they ended up sending a letter to the 3 beaures and cleaned it up making it seem like nothing ever happened and my score went back up 40 points.

Shit was fucked up though. Thats why you gotta check your credit once a month cause they will fuck your shit up.

get a second gig and throw that money towards ya debt

some of these niggas be clowning me for refereeing, but that shit comes in the clutch. The money comes fast...its cash, and adds up over the course of the season

however, one caveat i didnt mention is aside from my new house, the only debt i have is a low low (i think) balance on my student loans. I stopped at undergrad so my loan payment is manageable af.

Im also a government employee that if i make payments for 10 years or some shit, any remaining debt will be forgiven. Thats another discussion in itself b/c i could probably aggressively attack it and pay it off, but there is no need to do so since the payment is super low and so is the interest.
Im only abot 1500 away from being debt free. I will be done with that by the end of the year. I also graduated with no student loans.

How many of ya'll still using ya debit card for everyday purchases instead of some sorta rewards driven Credit Card?

This may need to get moved at some point to business forum...i wasnt sure

I do. I dont trust credit cards. I work in debt collection and capital one fucks people over.

Fuck credit and the beaures anyway.

I have years of on time payment history but 1 fuck up and I take a 40 point hit?

Its a bs system. Too bad its so ingrained in society you cant escape it.

self discipline fam

im not juding b/c i too have been bitten by the bug to buy something you really didnt need, but you wanted it

im just saying, for me, thats the exception and not the rule

i have very good discipline when it comes to this kinda thing so much so that i dont even really buy shit for myself or treat myself to shit w/o feeling guilty about it
just like me....
i have always said i dont buy shit for myself.
now my wife....she goes in..
but for me....very and i mean very few things are important enough for me to buy...
no matter how much you have.....saving is just apart of who i am.

like in 2013 i think......i got caught up in trying to prove dumb shit to niggas who didnt matter....man i blew a shit load of money....nba club party type money.

man i never did and never will do that stupid shit agian.

and heres the thing.

patience and you can get exactly what you want without the interest.
shit....save enough money and you might be able to buy your house in cash.....but niggas aint trynna stay home long.

could you buy said purchase with cash?

Meh..not wit some of the stuff I had to get for this house. Big stuff like new fence, fridge, furniture for example was bought wit the cc.

Little stuff for the crib I mainly used debit.

besides, how many times people always talking about how they never really have money to take trips or buy lil stuff here and there? Now, this might not be your situation as you have a pretty decent sized family, but for single folks, its a win win

You not gonna get rich solely off CC rewards, but the shit adds up over time, and if you got one that give you FF miles, that's a trip right there, all from buying shit you would normally buy throughout the year anyway

wouldnt really say I have a routine.....most bills are on autodraft from the account, not the cards

outside of the "bill account" we have several separate ones with each bank, so we're always switching...use this one here, that one there....transfer a lil sumn from this one to that one, etc

one of our credit cards has "points" we can use for walmart cards and gas and shit, thats it......we've gotten 3 $500 walmart cards in the past 4-5 years *shrugs*

yeah I couldnt do shit w/ the miles

I still like what im reading about the cash back shit tho.....just means you have to primarily do all your shit from one bank, and that aint gone happen

we're so sporadic and spread out I think it would take years to gain small benefits

the good thing about here in switzerland is they dont keep a credit profile on you.

if all your bills are paid...you can get a card or increase.
depending on how much you make...your increase can jump from $5000(with is always the start) to $100k in an hour.
and with credit suisse...they give you a card with no limit...but you have to pay it in full by months end.

even the process of getting a loan is crazy...if you got a job...you get a loan
if you have a solid business plan...you get a loan. they told me they want to give money away but people are not creative with their business ideas.

i got cards thru a few stores....they love trying to set me up lol

will just increase my shit out the blue, even when i got a balance....I never go over a certain point tho

the crooked ass loan places here stay trying to throw money at us too

I still use my debit card. Im about to apply for one of these Airline credit cards though. Get me some miles and buy a bunch of dope shit like a TV and put myself in debt.

I keep a CC on deck for times where I actually need it. Otherwise that bitch sits off with a zero balance.

It's stupid to perpetually keep yourself in debt. The most sensible way to live is to stay within your means. If you ain't got it, shit has to wait until you do.

my life is so much better now...

hmmm....a lot of cc companies will just close your shit out if you leave it at a zero balance for months....gotta grab something here and there and pay it off

even if im all paid up I'll just get lunch or something on it at least once a month
