2026 NBA Offseason Thread

That's true as far as if the market just isnt there for these guys cant do antything about that

I think thats a misstep by the league though for someone like Ryan Rollins thoughm....starting quality pg only making 4 mil

Its dumb for Milwaukee to hold on to him while he's on this excellent value where a lot of teams SHOULD be trying to trade for him....so you're going to let him go him either hit unrestricted free agency or you have to properly pay him

Every dollar matters for a team that has to pay Damian Lillard 22.5 for the next 4 years and that counts against their salary cap
Once the expansion teams come in 24 players will be moved around a couple niggas will get paid and everybody can relax lol. People are complaining about the cba cause its restrictive in terms of taking big swings but it makes sense if you're thinking big picture. Parity matters. Being fiscally responsible matters.

Everyone thought the new tv deal was going to send it up and have the cap going up 10%+ per year and started spending at those rates thats how you got Mitchell on a contract that is going to be paying $70 mil in 2 years and Poeltl will be making $27 mil. Meanwhile the cap has only increased 6% the last few years.

Gotta spend properly. If you're not a top 10 player you should not be making over $55 million or more than 35% of your teams cap. If you're not top 20 you shouldn't be making over 40million or 25%.

Im just pulling those numbers out my ass but you get what im trying to say.

Players definitely have to fight for a higher percentage cause the middle class is suffering but they're suffering because of niggas like mitchell, brown, fox, Davis, butler, Mobley, Murray, trae and more are paid like #1 guys when they're #2 and #3 guys. They gotta figure that out.

I like the strides RJ has made but thats a negative value contract right now.....you aren't getting positive value assets in return like Jaylen Wells, 1st round picks ect

For example why is Dallas giving up Gafford who probably has first round value due to his contract AND a first round pick

In the other deal you have them giving up Gafford AND Sergio De Larrea, thats basically 2 first round picks......why are they doing that for the right to pay RJ Barrett?
So you're saying gafford has more value that rj?

I gotta disagree.

Let me explain why

Gafford is locked up for the next 3 years making

17
18
18

RJ Barrett is on an expiring contract making right now making 29 mil.....you trade for him you automatically have committ to paying him a new contract immediately or you just gave up assets for nothing

Also I like the way RJ played in the playoffs but he still shot 33% from 3 last regular season

You have to really like RJ Barrett to trade for him and pay him

Thats fair. But I still think rj at $23-27mil aav over 3 is better value than gafford at $18. But yeah Dallas or any other team trading for him would have to like/love him.

Can I chime in? I would much rather have Gafford than Barrett who doesn’t really elevate things for most teams

Like he would be the highest level of role player ala Mikel bridges imo

If you’re trading for RJ and to make it worthwhile he would have to be your 2nd option and how good is your team if he’s your 2nd option?

If he’s your third why are you paying so damn much for a guy who cant stretch the floor? Then long term

I need teams to start taking a more hardline approach to salaries

Like take Jalen Duren for example

I woulda told him to go fuck himself for even asking for more than 35 mil

Trae Young should not be making 50+ mil a year

More like 40

Rj is a good third option imo. Gafford is the 6th best player on any good team at best.

If we didn't outbid ourselves on Poeltl I wouldn't even engage on moving him. Especially not for gafford or stewart and bits.

Yall not gonna rage bait me lol. Not today.

Im not paying RJ barrett more than Norman Powell

I just dont see how you can justify paying a 2 guard who shoots 34% from 3 and isn't very good on defense that kind of money

Thats just me though

One of those things where the idea of RJ is better than RJ the actual player

If you told me what he did in 7 games in the playoffs was the norm for him that would be a different story

If RJ Barrett is the second best player on your team get ready to pick in the lottery

Yes but the look at their salaries

I can use the money I saved and have another player to give me close to what RJ would give me
