COMMUNITY United States Politics Thread: Trump's Second Term

Two things could be true:

1) a population density map would way more accurately reflect either party's popularity in the state

2) Illinois is heavily gerrymandered in favor of democrats, not sure why this can't be admitted especially if Republicans do it more.

But is Illinois Red though? The contention wasn't whether or not gerrymandering happens in IL. It was about whether or not Illinois is a state that's so heavily gerrymandered that it flipped the state like the Reps are trying to do now.

Illinois isn't red but in 2024 Trump got 44% of votes.

It's so heavily gerrymandered that it puts a chokehold on the state there's no chance for competitiveness. A fairer map could double republican seats (6-7 out of 17) and create swing districts.

It then has the potential to become a red state. But as it is currently gerrymandered the chances are slim to none.

That's bad it in its own way, but again, that's different than what the Reps are doing. The Reps don't believe that someday in the future things might flip so they are gerrymandering now to prevent that day from happening. The Reps believe they are about to lose big in the Midterms, so rather than reverse course on the policies that people clearly hate, the are trying to cheat and steal the election.

Dems and Reps are both bad in their own ways, but we have to stop this both sides bullshit. Many Dems are corrupt, but, nowadays, most Reps are just plain evil.

I wasnt both siding anything

I said in the post u replied to that Republicans do it more and my point was stringers post was downplaying the effect gerrymandering has on Illinois specifically.

Nothing I said was false.

I don't know man. Both parties have been gerrymandering for a long time. It does kinda seem like both sidesing when the discussion is about Reps doing it to such an extreme degree that it's about to set off a gerrymandering war in the country, and you come along on some "But Dems are doing it too in Illinois" type shit. But maybe I just wasn't following your convo close enough to catch all the context.
