Why do some Black Americans hate Africa so much?

I have heard stories from black (American) people who have traveled abroad who claim that they get treated a certain type of way until they start speaking and the people hear the American accent and all of a sudden they get treated with more respect.

For instance, you go to France and at first they think you’re an African, so they treat you with disrespect until they hear you speak.

All of a sudden, now they’re kissing your ass because they know you’re American.

Anyway, like I explained before, I don’t refer to myself as “FBA” even though, by definition, that’s what I would be categorized as.

I think the issue that some black Americans have with people who come from immigrant backgrounds is that they tend to have this weird obsession with us.

When they tell us that we have no culture..

Why do they care?

If you see a video posted on social media with a title like “Black American Culture Is Dying”, there’s usually a 9 outta 10 chance that it’s by somebody from an immigrant background.

We don’t make videos about your failed homelands.

In general, WE DON’T CARE!!!

But, for some reason, we stay on y’all’s minds.

That’s just one of the issues the so-called FBA’s have with y’all.

It ain’t got nothing to do with wanting to be closer to whiteness!

Yeah, some people who call themselves FBA have said some real dumb shit.

Some people who come from the continent and the Caribbean have said (and done) some real dumb shit.

Do you know how diverse Africa is? Do you know that there are many countries that send virtually no immigrants to speak of in this part of the world? You ever met a Gabonese, Mozambican or Motswana? Probably not. You most likely taking about a few Nigerians, Ghanaian or Liberians. And how many Africans have you met in your life?

That said, I don't doubt your (limited) experience. I can see some Africans thinking you having your name is odd, especially if it is a last name over there. But that doesn't mean they hate you. Certainly not the hate expressed in the original tweet towards Africans.

Hating is extreme. I don't hate anything about Africa or Africans....I just know a large majority of personal experiences have been extremely shitty. The kids I called friends in college wouldn't even let me meet their parents cuz they told their parents they had all white friends. Like the promised their parents that when the went to school the wouldn't make friends with black Americans....

Just recently I went out with my wife and some co+workers..... One of her teachers is African....and I could feel the energy as she quizzed me about my name and showed shock that I knew the meanings of my names and the regions they she popular. She even said she was surprised I knew that. The shit stung.... I'm not one to beg another culture for acceptance...

Again I don't hate them...I just respect our differences and have no desire to appease their egos by lobbying for acceptance. It's cool to be different. We different.

i'll say this.. i've found that when travelling abroad it works in the OPPOSITE way when folks find out you're American.

I cant stand painting with broad brushes so I wont but there are plenty of people that I know that have say their experiences with American tourists and travellers has been ass with regards to how some Americans(aint even a black, white, brown thing).. how some Americans carry themselves in other countries giving folks their ass to kiss.

Her husband is also African.

It was legit two different parties... She had her friends... He has his..... At no point did anyone introduce themselves to anyone on the other side. It was weird... But not really..

On the real though, there's a lot of coonery over there.
