While Davidson only appeared on one two-part episode in Season 2 of Martin, his talk show character Varnell Hill has achieved a cult status among fans of the Fox sitcom. A contemporary of Lawrence’s Martin Payne, Varnell flaunts his success to Martin during a visit to the latter’s local radio show, prompting Martin to travel to Los Angeles and crash Varnell’s national talk show for a shot at stardom. This is the same talk show that will be the setting of the spinoff.


this is easily the best fucking news I've read all month...

Only thing is tho.. our brother Tommy Davidson went through some rough times and kind of fell off. I'm not sure if he still "got it" anymore.

Nah the ship has sailed. Now if it was a limited short series yea but not sure this will do well for a 30 minute show.
Cause we gotta get the back story and they'll have their hands tied on jokes as oppose to back in the 90's comedy
 
It was a good 2 shows during the Martin series. I always thought it was funny bcuz of the way Martin was reacting to Varnell. Not Varnell being funny. Martin was at his best when he had a nemesis. Varnell was his nemesis. I'll pass.
