I’m listening to this podcast about hip hop in 1996. And the host was arguing that Reasonable Doubt is the best album of the year. The other host was saying that it wasn’t. Where do y’all rank Reasonable Doubt compared to other albums that year.

Imo my top 2 albums from ‘96 is RD and ATLIENS.

I'd say

1. All Eyez On Me
2. 7 Day Theory
3. Reasonable Doubt
4. Atliens
5. It Was Written
 
Top 12-15...

Didn't cop it in 96 due to it being hard to find but so many great albums that year, it would be revisionist of me to put it any higher bc it's not something I listened to often but I did have a mixtape with "Can I Live" that I played a lot...

That is a truth though in the 90's Redman was way ahead of Jay in the 90's but in the 2000's Redman quit growing and Jay truly took off and started to stand apart...

Way different lanes they bring something completely different to the table and both never ventured very far from their comfort zones Musically it is like the Prince versus Michael Jackson comparison not saying they are at that level just that both were distinct in their styles...

The Redman Versus DMX is all about the energy you are looking for If I want to pumped I would Listen to X because even his deep Chill songs get me Hyped where If I want to laugh and Chill I am more likely to bump Redman...
 
Ridin Dirty & Resonable Doubt both top 5 rap albums

Tough choice to make but i would rank Resonable Doubt #2 after Ridin Dirty
