NXT Thread (5/21)

Potentially grand opening, grand closing

This week on NXT 2.0, a vignette aired for Tiffany Stratton, who will portray a rich spoiled “daddy’s girl” character similar to a character in the “Mean Girls” film. However, it looks like fans may never see that character on NXT because it might be dropped.

Bryan Alvarez said the following on Wrestling Observer Live:

“I don’t know if it’s because of me okay, I’m not gonna take credit for this. But I couldn’t help but hear within the last few hours that they may now be backing away from this daddy’s girl character so we’ll see. I’m not sure how many vignettes they’ve already shot but if she’s no longer talking about ‘daddy’ then you’ll know why. You heard it here first.”

Alvarez had been critical of WWE having older men on creative coming up with the “daddy’s girl” character and only showing certain parts of her body during the vignette that aired this week. WWE has been pushing the envelope with NXT 2.0 in an effort to attract younger viewers because the audience for the show is primarily older men.

For those of you that missed it, click below to see the vignette that aired this week for Stratton. She has already appeared on WWE TV but most fans wouldn’t know it because she wrestled on the 11/19 episode of 205 Live.

Been saying Breakker was the man. Put him on the main roster and let him grow slow there.

I can't lie when she was a face she wasn't nothing special but her heel run has been impressive. She needed a run with the title before wack ass Mandy Rose

I wanted her to beat Raquels ass for the strap.

Mandy is over as hell right now too tho cause of her stable. Without it idk how she'd be doing

During today’s Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez talked about Beth Pheonix’s departure from WWE NXT commentary. Phoenix is still with WWE and there’s talk of her tagging with her husband in the storyline with The Miz and Maryse but it looks like Phoenix’s full-time days in WWE are over.

Alvarez noted on WOL that the option is there for Phoenix to be part of the feud on the main roster while continuing her full-time commentary duties on NXT but that is not what is going to happen and she is done completely with the NXT brand.

Alvarez said, “It’s not like she couldn’t do the main roster feud with Miz & Maryse and also do NXT commentary. She has just decided she is done with NXT. Whatever that means, she says it’s due to family, but this also, again might not be the last person. Because no matter what you guys think about me or anyone else saying that it sucks — it does. There are people there who have told me that it’s just not fun anymore.”

It’s no secret that morale in the company has taken a dive this year with a record number of talent and staff being let go due to what the company says are budget-related reasons.

NXT has fallen so damn har its almost a joke. Surprised fans still hanging on.

NXT aint what it used to be theres no more well known indie folks on there outside of the few who were left from before and baby Uce so if you dont like watching talents grow and be developed then theres no need to watch really.

I still watch cause ive always liked seeing who might be next up.
