What point would they prove about standup in mma by having a boxing match? It'd be like having a bjj guy grapple a freestyle wrestler under bjj rules. The bjj would always win, it would prove nothing. That's basically my point.

Yeah I've heard it before, it's a stupid comparison though. One is a sport that focuses on one specific martial art. The other is a combination of many martial arts, of course the boxer will always be better than the mma fighter at pure boxing, and vice versa.

It doesn't shut down mma, because again boxing is only one martial art in a sport made up of many. How does conor getting pieced up in a boxing ring suddenly dismiss, karate based fighter like stephen thompson, anthony pettis, lyoto machida etc? Also, people don't mind the wrestling/grappling either, gsp and jon jones are the 2nd and 3rd most popular fighters in the sport and they're primarily wrestlers.

Again, I've heard that sentiment but it's a baseless claim made by fanboys who only watch mma, which is why mayweather vs mcg sold so much. Anybody with a lil knowledge of boxing could've told you how the fight was gonna end, but ignorance sells. Boxing just had it's biggest fight in a while with GGG vs Canelo, mma just had it's biggest ppv in a while with gsp vs bisping, both sports are doing fine and they occupy different lanes, that happen to cross over from time to time.
