TSA: Many Employees Skipping Work ‘Due To Financial Limitations’

The Transportation Security Administration reported Sunday that many of its staff have been calling out of work because they can’t afford to get there.

According to a TSA press release, “many employees are reporting that they are not able to report to work due to financial limitations.”

“Airports may exercise contingency plans due to call-outs and traveler volume in order to maintain effective security standards,” the press release added.

TSA has been experiencing far higher unscheduled absences during the shutdown, with 8 percent of employees skipping work on Saturday compared to 3 percent a year ago.

That has forced screening area closures at some airports, including at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, where “Checkpoint A” was closed Saturday “due to excessive callouts.”

Still, TSA reports that, on Saturday, 99.9 percent of passengers waited less than 30 minutes and 93.8 percent waited less than 15 minutes.

Why they let him get away with this bold face lie is beyond me.

Smart Democratic response -

#1 - This isn’t a National emergency.

The threat of illegal immigrant recently hit a 17 year low.

90% of hard narcotics come through LEGAL ports of entry, NOT the southern border.

Over 57% of illegal immigrants are here because of visa over stays, not because they crossed the souther border illegally.

The vast majority of these migrants are women and children seeking a better life and freedom from tyranny - not hardened criminals.

In fact, overall the percentage of illegal immigrants that do engage in criminal activist is LESS the the percentage of AMERICANS that engage in criminal activity - violent crimes or otherwise.

The real issue - Our system for processing asylum, is backed up over 12 months and further exacerbated by the government shut down withholding the judges and personal needed to continue doing their work.

Despite these facts, We approved 1.7 Billion dollars last year for use across the southern border that the President has yet to spend.

The President also already AGREED to a proposal of an ADDITIONAL 1.3 Billion in funding just one month ago ...

Seemingly overnight - he suddenly began viewing this as a crisis and a National Emergency.

Unfortunately, this “emergency” surrounding an expensive an ineffective border wall doesn’t align with his actions or the facts.

#2 - I don’t think the President wants border security.

“I think he wants a wall along the southern border to fulfill and Political campaign promise, NOT to protect the American people.

If he ACTUALLY wanted to enhance border security, he would talk to the experts about the best ways to achieve it.

They would tell him that it would require of increased staffing across the boarder, advances in technology , an improved process, along with sensible barriers where necessary.

But he doesn’t want border security.

He wants political security.

What we want is for him to stop holding millions of Americans hostage over a political agenda.

Let’s reopen the government and we can have a sensible debate in this issue and others - per our mandate as the legislative branch of our government.
