OPINION rappers need to “check in” if they want to stay alive?

I mean, its stupid, but if your music is saying you're about a certain lifestyle, thats going to open it up to where people in that lifestyle who have a whole lot less than you do are going to want to test you or make a name for themselves by hurting, punking you, robbing you, or whatever.

In these major cities, there are representatives of that lifestyle that get respect. Even from rival crews. "Checking in" is a sure way to make sure your stay in that city goes a lot more smoothly. Granted you will more than likely have to pay, but it would cost a whole lot less than a hospital bill or court date or a video being made of you causing your fans to turn on you or a whole lot worse.

Again, its stupid, but if you cant afford the security, its better than nothing.
 
Do trey songs need to check in with local pimps.....since pulls all the ladies.

we need to break down if lyrics brings a certain type of energy to you.

I recall this starting in LA when crip rappers took offense to out of towners using LA culture and scenery for their videos

This is basically it, rappers normally make appearances in hood clubs and pay a lil sumn to local gangstas to guarantee nothing funny happens. Musicians did this for decades. Rozay once tried to not do it and they started to target him.
 
Might help to some extent but I dont think the jacket that killed him were gang affiliated. And some folks aint just don't give a fuxk who say what they doing what they want regardless..

Did pop lost up his location beforehand on live or something and wasn't he in a rich area where things like this shouldn't happen?
 
Checking in is only for cats on a certain spectrum. Sam Cooke, Eminem, and Trey Songz don’t be in songs and videos throwing gang signs, or on songs counting bodies, or draped in gang flags.

The music that these niggas make widely appeals to street niggas. In certain cities, niggas are HUNGRY and it’s anybody Killer time. So a nigga that been claiming a Loc/Piru/GD/BD/VL set that they align with or got beef with, they gonna test his mettle, wolves will be out. It really be niggas out here hitting licks damn near 50 deep waiting on your favorite artist like “You really moving with 20 niggas, each got 30 drums, all the way out here in Detroit? Nigga you from Jacksonville, that’s a lot of traveling, no way you came up here deep like that, come up off them chains, duffle bags of money you be on IG bragging about.”

Now it’s certain niggas in each city that have a respect in the streets, where if it’s known you’re aligned with them, even the lowlifes not gonna touch you cause them and their family gotta live in said city and deal with repercussions after the artist that checked in has moved on, thus Big U said what he said. Them LA politics are deep, and if you from outta town claiming some of their shit, you are in PERIL unless you hiring a team of armed security or just check in, and they will make sure you make it.

Just some street shit that has been misunderstood/misinterpreted. If you want to move about freely, don’t be big gangster in your persona or just hire security

The president makes decisions for an entire country a rapper does not and we need to stop worshipping rappers and holding them in such high esteem. I guarantee you Eminem dont check in, Justin Bieber, Post Malone, Yelawolf, Lil Pimp they dont check in. Yelawolf will call a black man "nigger" to his face in their city and go unscathed and be back every other month with the same routine. Pop Smoke will move away and niggas want to hunt him down. George Zimmerman will kill a black teenager and gloat about it and none of these "street niggas" will do anything to him but XXXTENTACION will catch bullets for driving around. That's a deeper conversation to be had.


Black people we have got to do better because this ignorance about checking in isn't producing anything for our community's and is pure idiocy.

I believe that check in shit is all bullshit BUT with that said it's the reality of hip-hop/R&B artist. It's nothing but extortion to an extent and it's hilarious to see niggas like Big U and Trick Trick speak on it in public like that.

Big U even said in Drink Champs that he has got many a rapper chain back for then BUT if they got got for some money that there was no giving that back. Niggggggaaaa what

To add on.....niggas in Florida tried to kill Rick Ross but George Zimmerman walking around untouched. Niggas are fucking clown's and if anyone think this check in shit is cool is clowns as well. Yeah we all have said check in on some funny shit but never on some or else type shit
 
All above posts are on point. The check in shit has been going on way too long. Hell it happens when rappers go to London too. Not sure about Toronto, but possible.

Bunch of old niggas capping. They extorting who they can extort. If you a gangsta rapper and you going city to city doing shows in hood spots, you gotta pay the protection fee to the wolves. Thats all there is to it. The rappers exempt from this arnt doing hood shows, have legit security and their handlers would contact the authorities if dudes go outa line and tried to press them. The only reason Drake has to check in is because he involved himself with dumb street shit early on by trying to be down. If he moved different in the beginning they would treat him like Justin Beiber or some shit, by being fake nice to him, hoping he'll be their friend and throw them a bone.

Cant stand when dudes wanna play both sides. They doing interviewers acting like they wanna get rid of all the toxicity in the culture, but at the same time they apart of a lot of the toxicity and benefit from it.

"Checking In" is the most crab in the barrel concept I've ever seen in the black community.
Might as well say black people are enforcing sundown towns on other black people.
Might as well say we need a black version of The Green Book to avoid other black people.
Might as well say black people are self-proclaiming themselves to be slave catchers.
They are no better, if not worst, than the black cop terrorizing black people to impress racist police.
