NJPW/IMPACT/Indy Wrestling News/Events Thread

Fighting Spirit Magazine has published its 2017 'Top 50' and it is interesting to see the list compared to previous years. FSM has a fairly good reputation with the likes of Steve Austin, Jim Cornette and others writing for the brand. The following is the top 20 in their list and I wanted to get the thoughts of forum dwellers on whether they have been fair this year...

1) Kazuchika Okada (NJPW)
2) Kenny Omega (NJPW)
3) Tetsuya Naito (NJPW)
4) Tomohiro Ishii (NJPW)
5) Zack Sabre Jr (NJPW, PWG)
6) Will Ospreay (NJPW)
7) KUSHIDA (NJPW)
8) WALTER (wXw, Progress)
9) Hiromu Takahashi (NJPW)
10) Hiroshi Tanahashi (NJPW)
11) AJ Styles (WWE)
12) Michael Elgin (NJPW, AAW)
13) Kento Miyahara (AJPW)
14)Pete Dunne (WWE/NXT)
15) The Usos (WWE)
16) Ricochet (NJPW etc)
17) Tyler Bate (WWE/NXT)
18) Shingo Takagi (DG)
19) Daisuke Sekimoto (Big Japan)
20) Trent Barreta (NJPW etc)

Out of the top 20 there are FOUR WWE/NXT contracted performers. FOUR! Other (recent) WWE talent ratings include:

New Day (22)
Johnny Gargano (23)
Asuka (32)
The Bar (35)
Roman Reigns (36)
Braun Strowman (41)
Neville (43)

So that's 11 WWE/NXT wrestlers in the top 50 in 2017. When compared to the PWI version (Top 500) I personally put more stock and worth on the FSM50.

Thoughts niggas? Vince lauce?

Wish they would stop watering down WWE matches. At least for PPV. Dudes are capable of having much better matches.

New Japan Pro Wrestling has an enormous day with tickets selling out immediately for their return to Long Beach, California on March 25th. New Japan rented a much bigger venue for this show with the Walter Pyramid. Tickets were sold out for this event within 20 minutes of the tickets being made available to the public. An official with New Japan confirmed to us that the event sold out in just under 20 minutes with just over 4,700 tickets sold and that’s without any matches being announced. This was way more impressive than the first two Long Beach cards because it’s not the first time in the market, the timing was tough because it’s only two-weeks before WrestleMania and it’s a larger venue. There has not been an official announcement yet regarding the show being broadcast on AXS TV, although I would be shocked if it wasn’t. Don Callis joked on the New Beginning broadcast on Sunday by asking if they would have a four-man booth at Long Beach and joked that Kevin Kelly had heat with Josh Barnett.
