NJPW/IMPACT/Indy Wrestling News/Events Thread

Following their release from WWE back in April, it looks Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson have plenty of options elsewhere.

As noted last week, Impact Wrestling aired a commercial to promote their Slammiversary pay-per-view event, which featured footage of several WWE stars who were released and also previously worked in Impact.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the tag team is looking for what was described as two deals, one of that would be NJPW, which would be their main deal. They are also looking for a deal in the United States, with Impact Wrestling being in play.

Due to their non-compete clauses with WWE not expiring until mid-July, they can’t do anything until that time but since Slammiverary takes place a few days after the non-compete expires, it is possible that they could appear on the pay-per-view.

NJPW Holds Secret TV Taping In Los Angeles, MLW Superstar Debuts

New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) held a secret taping in the Los Angeles, California area on Saturday, according to a report from PWInsider. The event was titled “Lion’s Break Collision.” According to sources, 9-10 matches were taped in front of a closed set. The company had social distancing protocols in place during the taping.

All of the talent who worked the event were said to have been American. Also, MLW Superstar Tom Lawlor made his debut at the event. Jeff Cobb, TJP, Rocky Romero, Clark Connors, Alex Coughlin, Karl Fredericks, Misterioso, and more all worked the taping.

As first reported by Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, Impact Wrestling havemade strong offers to the pair, which will also allow them to pursue a deal with New Japan Pro-Wrestling if they decide to do so.

Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows have locked up their international deals around the same time that they inked their United States deals as well.

Earlier this week, it was reported by multiple outlets that Gallows and Anderson are heading to Impact Wrestling in a deal that will allow them to also work for New Japan Pro Wrestling.

At the time, Dave Meltzer was able to confirm they are expected to work for NJPW once they’re free to travel to Japan, but no deal had been agreed upon. Gallows and Anderson came to terms with Impact after the promotion made them a surprisingly strong money offer and “they are virtually certain to accept it.”

In the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer wrote, “In fact, they’ve already cut the New Japan deal with Gedo and Nobuyuki Sugabayashi, although it likely doesn’t go into effect until New Japan’s hiring freeze ends.”

Thus, the former WWE stars are under the impression from Impact that they can work for both promotions starting later this month. The reason for that is due to them having to wait out their non-compete clause deals with WWE, which expires on July 15th.

Impact has already teased them coming in, but there’s still no word yet on when they’ll make their promotional debuts although speculation is that it would make sense for them to appear at Slammiversary.
