OUT NOW Gang Starr - One of the Best Yet

What's the verdict on GURU?

I always felt that Gang Starr albums, in general, were kinda boring. Don't get me wrong, I like the East Coast boom bap sound, but his monotone voice can put you to sleep. He could rap, but he sounds better in posse jams (DWYCK).

I think the reason this album works is because of the features.

In fact, most albums nowadays (or over the past 20 years) need features every other song to be able to play it from front to back.

I guess the difference in the 80s and early 90s is there were more groups and less solo artists.

Somebody mentioned Tribe. Their last album was a 5 mic classic, but there were so many different MCs from Q Tip to Phife to Jarobi to Busta. I think even Consequence was in there somewhere.

Guru had prolly the most in demand producer in the 90s and still couldn't make a classic. As a rapper he kinda basic but he always has a message so he cool

'Diamonds are forever like my infinite thought, like respect in the in the hood that cant be bought'... The album was fire, its so dope when a posthumous album hits the mark...
