The hood isnt the hood by chance. Its very systematic.

The government purposefully doesnt invest as much money in the hood.

Lets take New Jersey as example.

Cops in Glen Rock, Allendale, Ridgewood make way more money than cops in Newark, Camden, and Paterson even though Glen Rock has no crime and Newark is riddled with crime. As soon as cops have any experience, they leave Newark and look for jobs in Glen Rock cause they make more money. This makes it so only the worst cops stay in Newark even though Newark needs the most experienced cops.

Lets take schools. This is a real life example. When Chris Christie became the governor of NJ, first thing he did was make major cuts to the education budget. I remember Wayne school district getting the most state funds while Newark, Irvington, and Paterson lost the most and ended up getting the least. Anyone that knows Jersey knows that Wayne is one of the nicest suburbs in Jersey and doesnt need any state funds whereas Newark, Paterson, and Irvington school districts need the most state funds.

I can keep going. There is tons of proof that the "hood" is systematically kept poor.

With that said, everyone that could leave, should leave. Your not gonna be able to build a real sense of community in a place the government is opressing to that degree.

Getting out from that opression is a success.

Being born and raised in Newark, this is nothing but facts. I love Newark and being from there, I have that pride that Newark helped be who I am today. But at the same time I knew that it was somewhere I could not raise a family at. It will always be home!!!

I feel the same way about Detroit. I love Tha D, but living there again??? Nah B, I'm watching shit go down on my FB feed daily and I can't see myself living there anytime soon... Maybe if it was my old hood... and that's a huge "maybe". Shit is still home and when I'm there I feel comfortable as fuck.

At every level. Local, county, state, and federal.

I agree, but I believe we should look at the government and figure out how to take advantage .

The taking advantage of the government part is what people are scared of.

We did... And that's a huge part of why the city is the way it is now. When Colman Young took power as mayor, it was only a matter of time before that power corrupted him and every level of government. Coleman Young was in office for 20 years, from '74 to '94, and Black leadership became the norm under him as city council became wholly Black. School boards Black, Chief of police Black, everything Black, and we fucked the city up in the process with our own greed, especially as coke, then crack hit.

We had Dennis Archer for mayor after that and he sold us out for casino money after running on a platform stating that casino gambling was a bad idea for the city (something that Coleman wanted for the city) AND pushing more white suburban money to come into downtown. We all know what happened with his successor: Kwame Kilpatrick. Initially his ideas were good, but that money got the better of him and he looted the city and wound up in prison.

At this point, I don't quite know what it will take to change the city.
