Kwame coming home? Trump 'receptive' to a request to free Kilpatrick

The one between three and three.

Trump 'Receptive' To Request To Free Kilpatrick, Detroit Lawmaker Says

Donald Trump seemed "very receptive" to a request to have Kwame Kilpatrick's lengthy prison term commuted, says a Detroit lawmaker who last week urged the president to release the ex-mayor.

During a White House visit for African-American leaders, state House Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (D-Detroit) handed Trump a letter she hoped would bolster a commutation request submitted by Kilpatrick last year. It made the case that Kilpatrick's 28-year prison term for corruption is excessive and unfair.

"Based on his body language, I could tell that he was present, paying attention, receptive and somewhat reassuring," Gay-Dagnogo said of her brief interaction with Trump. "He seemed familiar with the request and I believe he said he'd look into it."

The letter says that though "Kilpatrick made great errors in judgment," convictions of other public officials with "similar cases, sentenced around the same time, highlight stark contrast." It names former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, former Virgina Gov. Bob McDonnell, and former Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson, who were all sentenced to 14 or fewer years in prison and have since had their sentences overturned in court or commuted by the president.

I'm mixed on this

I hate to see another black man/woman locked up, but he betrayed the city. Imagine where the D would be now had he done the right thing. He had the support of the ppl, political connects all that.

Plus the whole murder cover up

True, but while I was still living out there, I remember hearing on the radio that Kwame re-negotiated all of the deals with the casinos because the deal that Dennis Archer put in place was supposedly shitty as hell. After Kwame's deal it was supposed to have brought tax revenue from the casinos up. This would have been somewhere around 2002-ish.

After that I figured dude had the city's best interest at heart.

I'm moving back sometime this month or early in April. It's gonna be interesting to see how much has really changed in the 17 years I've been gone.

Yeah he started out on the right foot, super bowl in the D all that. But then it went to shit quick.

When you get back, go straight downtown. Shit will blow your mind. The hoods are still recovering, but making a nice comebakc. 7Mile/Livernois area is starting to boom again, Midtown is poppin off

but you still gotta keep that burner on you in the usual areas, and guard yo buffs

Welcome home

I grew up in that neighborhood. University district btw 6 and 7 mile and Livernois.

Man they got dope ass retail shops along that shop.

My dad drove me around downtown when I was home for Thanksgiving. Shit was mindblowing. All these new condos and big retailers. Had none of that growing up.

Even down by the old Tiger Stadium everything is brand new

I went to Hampton Middle School right there in University District on Warrington and Margarita. I heard they closed the school a while ago.

I was always on 7 mile and Livernois, mainly going to Buy Rite a few blocks off Livernois, but there was a couple of shops right there back inna day that I used to hit up. Used to stay up in O'Quinns fish spot on Livernois and Chippewa. I remember when they first opened, the line was ridiculous but their fried perch was good as fuck.

Initially I'mma be in Ypsi with my fam, prolly for six months or so and then I'mma figure out if I'm actually gonna cop a spot in the Tha D proper or hit up The Field and move back out there.

Trump don't care and isn't a politician so I could see him doing this because one of Kwame's surrogates is a big donor to the Trump campaign. If Trump was a career politician, I don't see him pardoning a polarizing person like Kwame in a swing state that he needs to carry during the 2020 election. I think the majority of Trump voters in Michigan really hated Kwame at that time and found enjoyment in his fall from grace.

Downtown was being transformed while I was still there.

I remember that area over by The Fox used to be a complete shithole. My graduation ceremony in 1990 was at The Fox and all my family from Saginaw drove down. I remember thinking "Where the fuck is everybody gonna park without gettin their car broken into or just robbed out on the street?". Last time I was in that area was the summer of 2003 and the change was so dramatic I had to keep checking to make sure I was in the right place.

I'll be staying in Ypsi at first, but I swear the day I get in town, after I unload everything and drop off the van I'm moving in, I'mma get cleaned up, change clothes, and jump in the ride and drive all the way downtown to hit up American AND Lafayette Coney Island. Granted, American has a spot out here in Vegas and I've eaten there, but ain't shit like gettin' coneys in Tha D.

Maaaaaannnnn, I’m glad homie free. Wish he would have stayed square, the D would be vastly different. Didn’t know we had som many Detroit niggas in here! Nigga miss chili cheese fries and Buddy’s and shit. Whatup Doe.

I'm still stuck here in Vegas for the time being, but thankfully we have American Coney Island right downtown on Fremont St (right across from a White Castle no less!), so there's that piece of the crib here.

I'm thinking I may either fly or drive back next month though.

I listen to 97.1 the ticket, and they talk about The D Las Vegas casino. It’s supposedly owned by a car from Michigan, they have Coney Island, Andiamos and other Detroit shit out there.
