Jermaine Dupri: Today's Female Rap = Stripper Rap

lol @ people who don't care about music. JD did more before the age of 20 than all them chicks combined ever did

Pretty much. JD got the creditials to criticize. I understood where he was coming from.

And I'm pretty sure he feels the same way about a lot of the male rappers out there. Part of it is the mainstream shyt. Nothin new. Been going on for decades. When a "trend" has run its course, folks are gonna want something different. Plain & simple.

I wish Young Ma, Rapsody, and 2D Natee was equally gettin this much attention from mainstream.

while I partially agree... if he has the credentials to criticise... and he is a "gatekeeper" as he claimed... then he's part of the reason for the fact that there's no other female emcees out there spitting something other than ratchet shit.

If he has all these credentials, resources and "keys to the gates"... then why he not puttin more female rappers with substance on?

Is radio even a factor anymore tho?

The labels being a factor is part of it, but not as much as it once was.

Radio is a major factor. Radio doesn't control who gets put on and builds a following. But it def controls what the casual fan gets to hear. We on here could care less about the radio, cause is not where we find most of our music. But the casual "on the way to work" radio person mostly hears what's on the radio. Labels are in bed with the radio, so labels still play a role. Not as much as b4 obviously. I will agree w u on that

Girl in the mask I heard is nice she local too and can perform

Is there a market for rappers like Lauryn Hill?? 99% of the female rappers whether it's Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Nicki Minaj..etc only rap about their pussy being the best and promote themselves as sexkittens/pornstars.

Right now and it's been like this for quite some time. The only way a woman hits the mainstream as a rapper she needs to take her clothes off and rap about her pussy.

Also...at least during Lauryn...Kim...Foxy...Missy...Brat time, fans had a variety of styles. And each one of them had that mainstream success.

Dumb mfs can't even see he was trying to school em, instead they're catching feelings and missing the point he was making.

I mean bruh but we all know once he used that broad language everybody gonna say something so his point gets lost. Happens when anybody criticizes rap. All our parents said all rap is guns violence sex and drugs. Then we come with 50 examples of rappers who don’t fit that bill. Then they say well that’s what they see us dancing too and on the radio. They not gonna care about MOS Def and Common.

So with JD saying this of course every female rapper going to be pissed because we seen the bullshit get played before the real shit. Add that rap is dominated by men on both sides. The same men who signing these stripper rappers. I knew as soon as he said it it was going to be messy.

If he had asked do women support women rappers that would’ve been different.

Dumb hoes taking it personal when he wasn’t talking bout them.

He talking bout the Cardinals, Meg and City’s Girl types. That’s the only female rappers you hear.

Bitches love feel like somebody talking bout them

You know that shit never works. Logically we know he didn’t mean every female rapper buuuuut he ain’t really clear it up. Same way when somebody talks about male rappers. Do we get defensive or say “they only meant so and so not the ones I listen too”

If Da Brat made the same comments as JD...I can only imagine the kinda backlash she would get.

She wouldn’t get much because she a woman mc. Same reason Steve Harvey ain’t get any flack for that book. The criticism is taken differently when you view the person as deeper connected

I think his larger point was that they're all so similar they blend in together so much it's hard to tell who is who and none of them do anything to stand out musically.

I personally don't want to hear a female rapper spit bars about her sexual parts all the fuckin time...I dunno why some would think that. It's just a lame excuse

At least Dupri introduced us to Brat who was somewhat a tomboy and not overtly sexual so he can talk

@silverfoxx props for the Leshurr drop....Probably my favourite female rapper now

JD's a legend, no doubt, but imo he's a level or two below guys like Jay, Dre, maybe even Diddy. A co-sign from JD won't get your career buzzin like a co-sign from Jay or Dre would

End of the day niggas ain't pulling cardi b albums off the shelves... its other females. This is a problem they themselves can fix. More niggas are aware of rapsody and her skills than females. I guarantee it.
