OPINION I hate stories like this:

ALL certified teachers in this country should have a starting salary at $50K. It's the bare minimum needed to ensure they not only have enough to maintain their own cost of living, it can incentivize them to provide supplies for their classroom when schools fall short on funding, or when teachers want to deviate their own learning experiences with their students.
I agree and sadly a lot of teachers are only making 30k a year.

I’m gonna catch Hell for this but....

The thing I hate about this story is the fact this dude felt the need to tell the media that he got a second job in order to help his students.

I hate when people do something honorable and then look for a pat on the back.

If you wanna do something nice for somebody, just do it.

If I got a second job in order to help my students, nobody would ever know about it , because I ain’t one of those “LOOK AT ME” kinda people.

I hate when people want praise and special attention just for doing something humane.

You can report me if you want.

i agree with it but I believe people do that because they want sympathy or feel it would make a change to show teachers are struggling. But everybody gotta choice to do something and can't nobody make someone do something with their own money.

You are assuming he tipped of the reporters. From the story I watched, it doesn't seem that he called the news. Seems like one of his students/friends/teachers made the call. He seems modest and not everyone he worked with knew what he was doing.

Also, this might spread awareness in that community that they need help.

I'm not sure the article says he informed the media himself and I would guess he didn't.

Some of these comments have thrown me off a bit because this has brought up multiple thoughts of the bullshit the gov't be on.

There is no law on the books that guarantees kids in public schools the right to a quality education. Yet this same gov't has truancy laws in which they will lock up kids and/or parents when a kid or kids are not going to school.

So if the gov't doesn't give a fuck about the quality of education kids are getting why the fuck do they care if kids are even going to those schools?

Here's the major problem with our government. I know a lot of people on here are anti-Christian, but the Bible has jewels. Jesus was walking with his disciples and a few of them were arguing about who was the best disciple. Jesus shut them down by saying the best of you is the least. His point was that they were supposed to serve the people by spreading the Gospel. The most effective servant is the one that can humble himself or herself enough to actually put others before themselves.

Our government is made up of a bunch of rich people. They are supposed to be public servants, but they don't see themselves that way. They see themselves as the elites or the ruling class. They aren't humble in the way Jesus said a person that serves the people should be. So, at the end of the day, nothing they do is really for our benefit. It's all to help them maintain their own status.

Facts and you really don't be learning shit in them schools but some outdated shit. I've learn so much shit on my own than them schools ever taught me and had to unlearn and relearn.

School is really what the parents make it for the child.

People really got to stop thinking what kids in school are being given is enough for them to really succeed and get ahead in this world.

So much truth with the bold

Well, some parents want the teacher to wear both hats to teach their child and be their parent and then you hear the parents saying they don't have time to teach their child at home after working long hours at their job.

Parents wanting the teacher/school to wear both hats is part of the problem we find ourselves in as far as kids having a lack of home training and poor educations

Just like personal relationships people sacrifice and make time for the shit they want to no matter the hours they work at their job IMO.

True and this is why most people shouldn't have kids. I mean if a person can't handle their responsibilities having a child then why have them?

And the sad thing is, most of these ignoramuses champion capitalism SO BAD, and stay getting screwed by it.

They have no idea that the following departments in the country are inherently socialist:

Public schools
Police Dept
Fire Dept
Public library system
Medicare/Medicaid
Welfare/Food stamps
Sanitation
Postal Service
Housing Assistance

Things that keep this country from collapsing on itself have been based off citizen-paid taxes.
Socialism saved President Trump's life when he went to Walter Reed to get socialized medicine when he had COVID-19

Y'all sick with the "Hey, big head" shit.

Anywho, school is what the household makes it out to be. Most parents probably could teach their child(ren) themselves, but a TON of them are too tired from their own jobs or flat-out too lazy to do so, which is why they palm their kids off on teachers. We went over this before when some posters here thought that teachers were nothing more than baby sitters.

The biggest issue in the public school system is that it doesn't teach survival skills as kids progress in age. It's all academic-based, which is somewhat hopeful that all these kids are going to college, that aren't at trade schools. However, most schools don't teach basic financial literacy, and classes like Home Economics have been all but eliminated due to it being considered outdated thinking for women and the rise of third-wave feminism. They call it "Family and Consumer Science" classes now, and not many schools even bother to teach them anymore. I guess they figured kids won't need to know how to boil eggs and hot dogs when they get hungry, cause they can always order out, or they won't have to iron pants anymore cause all work environment should be causal dress.

It's sad when you consider the things that have been eliminated from basic curriculums today:

How to tell time on an analog clock (because all clocks are digital)
Cursive writing script (like no one signs anything with their name anymore)
The Dewey Decimal System (who goes to libraries, still.....right?)
Roman Numerals (Because all the US Amendments/building foundations should be regular numbers now, right?)
Sewing (just buy a new one if it rips)

This is the just the beginning.....
