R&B got progressively worse from the mid 80s up until the neo-soul movement started by D'Angelo, Maxwell, Jamaroqioi and Erykah Badu.

There were some good songs from 89-95, but the movement itself didn't really pick up until Erykah Badu's Live album imo.

Having said that, Jodeci dropped some classics, like The Show The After Party The Hotel.

And R Kelly dropped some heat, but even he got better as the 90s progressed
