A Nashville FBI employee exchanged explicit photos and conversations with a 14-year-old Rhode Island girl, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.
Justin Carroll, 38, is charged with s*xual exploitation of children and receipt of child pr0nography, the Justice Department said in a press release. Carroll is an electronics technician with the FBI, not an agent.
He was arrested Tuesday morning when he arrived at work in Nashville’s FBI office, according to the release.
Feds said Carroll began his online relationship with the girl in the summer of 2020, local ABC affiliate WKRN reported. They communicated in chat rooms and by email.
Prosecutors said the girl told Carroll she was 14 years old, but he continued to message her s*xual fantasies and both send and receive explicit photos, according to WKRN.
In one conversation, feds said Carroll wrote “I don’t care what your age is. You are beautiful and special to me. You can spend the rest of your days with me” and later added, “I am joking. You don’t act 14. More like 13. A horny 13-year-old. Who has a beautiful body.”
Carroll’s own FBI office began investigating him after the girl mailed a package with no specific recipient to the Nashville FBI building, the feds said. The package was deemed suspicious, and the bomb squad was called in.
But the box only contained a Teddy bear and candy, according to the feds, who then traced the return address to the girl’s Rhode Island home.
The Justice Department said Carroll, a husband and father of two, engaged or attempted to engage other underage girls in s*xual conversations and relationships, and the investigation is ongoing.
