Political theatrics, either they have real damning shit they plan on releasing drip by drip allowing each Republican supporter to hang themselves with their support. Or they are believe everyone is as entertained with their bullshit as they are, and nothing at all comes from this. Or or...they are tryna slow ball it in hopes that more snitches break

CNN: Pence Aide Testifies That Trump-Zelensky Call Was Abnormal

The political nature of the now-infamous July call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reportedly stuck out to an aide to Vice President Mike Pence.

Two sources familiar with the closed-door Thursday testimony of Pence aide Jennifer Williams told CNN that she found the conversation between Trump and Zelensky to be out of the ordinary because it did not have the typical tone of a diplomatic call. Williams testified that she did not bring up her concerns regarding the call with her superiors.

Williams reportedly claimed that she never heard Pence mention anything about investigations related to the 2016 election, Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden or the Ukrainian natural gas company that Biden’s son Hunter sat on the board of. Williams also mentioned that she was unaware of any request from Trump to Pence about investigations during a Sept. 1 meeting that the vice president had with Zelensky in Warsaw, according to CNN.

Although Williams’ nightly notes made note of the call and the transcript, CNN reported that she testified that she was not sure whether Pence had read the transcript.

Williams denied knowing why military aid was being withheld from Ukraine and that she was puzzled about it since she was not part of the decision-making process. However, a third source told CNN that Williams testified that she believed it was related to hearing Trump’s request that Ukraine open investigations into the Bidens and the 2016 election on the call.

Last week, Pence repeatedly refused to say whether he knew of the deal between Trump and Zelensky where nearly $400 million in military aid to Ukraine and a White House meeting was contingent on the Ukrainian government opening investigations in Biden and a conspiracy about a DNC server in Ukraine.

In the wake of the explosive testimony from career diplomat Bill Taylor last month, Pence told Fox News host Laura Ingraham that the ongoing testimonies in the impeachment inquiry only reinforce the Trump administration’s need to “drain the swamp.”

Mulvaney Was Subpoenaed Thursday Evening. WH Already Says He Won’t Appear

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney was subpoenaed on Thursday evening to appear before congressional investigators on Friday morning, Axioswas first to report.

“Mr. Mulvaney has the opportunity to uphold his oath to the nation and Constitution by testifying tomorrow under oath about matters of keen national importance,” an official working on the impeachment inquiry told CNN. “We hope Mr. Mulvaney does not hide behind the President’s ongoing efforts to conceal the truth and obstruct our investigation.”

But a White House official already told CNN that Mulvaney will likely not appear for the deposition. The subpoena follows a letter sent by House investigators Tuesday that requested Mulvaney appear for testimony by the end of the week.

House Democrats were aiming to grill Mulvaney about his stunning admission of a quid pro quo while speaking to reporters at a press briefing last month. Mulvaney confirmed that military aid to Ukraine was withheld while Trump and his associates pressed the government to open up investigations into Trump’s political rivals.

Hours later, Mulvaney walked back the admission, but that didn’t stop Trump’s allies from publicly attacking his competence for several days.

Trump Is Mad At Barr For Pressuring Him To Release Ukraine Call Transcript

In the early days of the unfolding Ukraine scandal, before the White House released its version of President Trump’s infamous call with the president of Ukraine, Attorney General Bill Barr privately urged Trump to allow for its release, The New York Times reported.

At the time, Barr told Trump releasing a version of the transcript would combat Democrats’ hype over the complaints outlined in the whistleblower report and would show that Trump did nothing wrong. Obviously, Barr miscalculated.

According to the Times, Trump is now aggravated with Barr for pressuring him to release the transcript. Barr is reportedly annoyed that Trump lumped him in with his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani as if he were working personally as Trump’s lawyer as well.

While the two are still on far better terms than Trump ever was with his former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, there’s been noticeable distance created between the two in recent weeks.

Schiff Whacks Nunes’ Witness Requests: Will Not Abet ‘Sham Investigations’

House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) responded to Rep. Devin Nunes’ (R-CA) witness requests Saturday, saying that he would not allow the impeachment inquiry to become a “vehicle” for more “sham investigations.”

Nunes, ranking member on the committee, sent his list in a letter to Schiff earlier on Saturday, naming the whistleblower and Hunter Biden among the people Republicans want to testify.

Schiff responded in a statement, saying that he would give the request “due consideration.”

“This inquiry is not, and will not serve, however, as a vehicle to undertake the same sham investigations into the Bidens or 2016 that the President pressed Ukraine to conduct for his personal political benefit, or to facilitate the President’s effort to threaten, intimidate, and retaliate against the whistleblower who courageously raised the initial alarm,” Schiff wrote.

Republicans have been struggling to distract from the damning fact pattern established by most of the impeachment witnesses so far, complaining about the private testimonies and accusing Democrats of a lack of transparency. Since that argument will be moot next week as the public hearings begin, Republicans like Nunes seem to be casting about for a new angle rooted in the baseless conspiracy theory President Donald Trump has tried to propagate about Hunter Biden’s involvement with a Ukrainian company.

Rand Paul Argues Trump Has ‘Every Right’ To Freeze Military Aid To Ukraine

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) continued to defend President Donald Trump on Sunday, insisting Trump was within his rights to withhold congressionally-approved military aid to Ukraine.

“Presidents, since the beginning of time, have resisted Congress,” the Kentucky Republican told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd. “And there’s been this sort of back-and-forth jockeying over what is sent.”

“But also, presidents have withheld aid before for corruption,” he continued. “So the thing is, I think it’s a mistake to say, ‘Oh, he withheld aid until he got what he wanted.’ Well, if it’s corruption, and he believes there to be corruption, he has every right to withhold aid.”

It’s Paul’s latest round of defense for Trump as House impeachment investigators dig into the President’s decision to delay the nearly $400 million in aid while pushing the Ukrainian president to announce an investigation into 2020 candidate Joe Biden and the DNC’s server.

Trump and his allies claimed Trump had done so to fight corruption in Ukraine regarding Biden and his son Hunter, though there is no evidence either of the Bidens did anything wrong.

Last week, Paul joined Trump at a campaign rally in Kentucky, during which the Republican senator echoed the President’s demand that the identity of the whistleblower at the heart of the impeachment investigation be exposed.
