The UN estimates that 40% of the world's food production is lost as a consequence of diseases that affect crops. To combat this problem, Eddy Alvarado founded Agro360, which uses artificial intelligence to detect crop diseases early and reduce the use of harmful agrochemicals. In August, the company partnered with Arroz La Garza, one of the top brands of rice in the Dominican Republic, to implement this technology in 1,500 rice farms around the country.

All before turning 23, Brandon Fleming had dropped out of college, worked an assembly line job, returned to Liberty University for his B.A. degree and coached an Atlanta middle school’s debate team. Its success introduced him to Harvard University, where he joined the debate faculty at age 26, and created a pipeline for underrepresented youth in Ivy League admissions. The Harvard Diversity Project enrolls Atlanta high schoolers of color into Harvard’s summer residency program, with Fleming raising $500,000 to pay their way. Fleming's Atlanta team first competed in 2017 and became the first all-black team to win Harvard's tournament the following year.
