Now they aren't good defensively. Bring back when 100 point games was a spectacle.

I’m bored so I did some research

So I went back all the way to the 80-81 season

95-96 was the first year where there were more teams averaging under 100 (16) than over 100 (13). Then it jumped.

96-97: 21/29 didn’t average 100 a game
97-98: 25/29 didn’t average 100
98-99: 28/29! (Strike season but still)
99-2000: 22/29
00-01: 25/29
01-02: 25/29
02-03: 25/29
03-04: 27/29
04-05: 24/30
05-06: 25/30
06-07: 21/30
07-08: 17/30
08-09: 17/30

09-10 is when the scales finally tipped in the other direction. But that’s 14 years.

But then in 10-11 it jumps back up to 19/30

11-12: 27/30 (strike season)
12-13: 19/30

18-19 was the year that every nba averaged over 100 a game. But it wasn’t the first time that happened. It happened in 77-78. And multiple times after that in the late 70’s early 80s. Keep in mind the NBA didn’t bring in the 3 point line until 79’.

Long story short, you’ll never get back to that time unless the nba significantly alters the defensive rules.
