2020 NBA Draft thread

Rumblings around the league suggest Golden State and Charlotte covet Wiseman; to get him, the Hornets might need to leapfrog to trade up. The pieces exchanged here resemble the Celtics-Sixers deal in 2017 involving Markelle Fultz and Jayson Tatum, but hopefully it’ll work out better for Charlotte than it did for Philly. Wiseman’s athleticism gives him a foundation to be a solid pro, and he has plenty of traits that could lead to stardom.

The Hawks are shopping their first-round pick and intend to push for the playoffs, according to multiple league sources. Expect them to also be aggressive in free agency; the franchise wants to win now and capitalize on Trae Young’s emergence. DeRozan could serve as a secondary on-ball creator next to Young. It’s not a perfect trade or fit, but this type of construct could be what Atlanta is immediately looking for. Selecting Williams, who is receiving top-10 hype from teams, would also give them an upside scorer at the forward position.

Villanova Wildcats star Saddiq Bey was one of the best shooters in college basketball last season and has all the makings of a future pro.

Golden State Warriors forward Eric Paschall, who played alongside the prospect on the Wildcats in 2018-19, told HoopsHype that Bey is “next up” in the lineage of players from Villanova who will have success in the NBA. Not only is Bey a fantastic shooter (45.1 percent from 3-point range as a sophomore) but during our recent interview, he was also willing to break down Ancient Greek philosophy with HoopsHype.

New York Knicks: Plenty of people around the NBA believe the Knicks want to make a bigger splash in this draft than the eighth pick might allow. But Leon Rose is also trying to look measured in this first go-round. LaMelo Ball was the guy they were hoping to end up with around the time of the lottery. Now that they’re settled into 8, the Knicks should be fine with someone like Isaac Okoro or Killian Hayes falling to them. Especially Hayes, who would complement RJ Barrett really well on the floor. However, the Knicks may still need to move up in order to end up with one of these guys.
