Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter just added another impressive achievement to his list of career accomplishments. The Hip Hop G.O.A.T. contender's 2001 album, The Blueprint, is among the latest 25 selections for the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress.

Jay's classic LP is joined by Curtis Mayfield's Super Fly, Cyndi Lauper's She's So Unusual, and The Best of Schoolhouse Rock. Singles by acts such as Cab Calloway, Nina Simone, Earth, Wind & Fire, Ritchie Valens, and Neil Diamond were also chosen for preservation.

I wonder what other Hip Hop records have been included?

I know The Message by Grandmaster Flash is in there.

I think 3 Feet High and Rising and Fear of a Black Planet are in there too.

Tupac in there

Here's the link. There's a lot of recordings that aren't music, but I'm going to try to make a list of the Hip Hop/R&B inclusions.

@The Lonious Monk I started a new thread

List isn't all that strange to me. If an alien race landed on earth or if future humans came out of a bunker for the first time in thousands of years and needed a quick definer of what hip hop is, once you put your preferences to the side, that list would pretty much be it.

There's a difference between "best" albums and "defining" albums.

Of course there's a few select others you could include but adding those won't add more to the narative that these already don't. Maybe one southern album like Aquemini.

I remember the football team was talking like Renegade was the greatest song ever niggas had gotten the bootleg like a week before

Cosign.

If I had to pick a Southern album it would be Ghetto Dope.

Too bad he doesn't put his shit on spotify. I refuse to be held hostage by tidal just to listen to his shit.
