Be conservative w how far you push your line up back, you can always cut more but if you go too far there ain’t shit you can do but wait.

And if you lining up the back, use a hand mirror plus the bathroom mirror and practice the motion several times before turning the clippers on.

I been cutting my own hair since i was 21/22. IF you havent before dont do no fancy blending/fading. Just use whatever number once, brush you hair and go over it again so you aint got no patches.
