I really thought you were about to bless us with your voice.

Holy shit, yesterday was nuts.

My sister-in-law got married. Cool ceremony, even cooler reception. Day wedding. Worth taking a Friday off to go back to Wilmington.

However….

There was a dark cloud over the day: her BEST friend was supposed to be there, reading a poem as a toast to her (since there were no bridesmaids).

She didn’t make it. Unfortunately, she never made it out of Atlanta. She was found deceased on Thursday night.

My wife found out at 6 AM from the other friend that was reading the poem. So, when the wedding started at noon, only four people at that ceremony knew that the bride’s best friend was dead: the other friend, my wife, me, and the bride’s brother, who was the MC for the day.

Our job was to not tell her till the ENTIRE day was over, because obviously it would devastate her and she nor groom deserves that.

Unfortunately, someone in the best friend’s family PUT THE SHIT ON FACEBOOK, after the family specifically said not to. (Side note: I HATE people that do shit like this. That ain’t your news to give out, shut the FUCK up till the coast is clear)

Like I said, the day went well with us holding this info from the bride. We even did all the family pics and shit without of hitch. Partiality because her other brother had her phone, and she had no outside contact…..

Till about 5:30.

She goes back to the hotel, ready to change for an after party at their new home, then turns on her iPod.

……GODDAMMIT. For some odd reason, people had been calling her about this. Why the fuck would you give her this news on her WEDDING day???

So, once she found out the truth, she went hysterical. Paramedics literally had to be called, and everything from 5:30 on was cancelled.

I spent the rest of the evening in damage control. Since I love them both, bride and groom, I just stayed out of the way, and delivered drinks/food to the room since she had to be sedated over her grief.

At least I was in my home city, where some of my college people could come holla at me AND bring me some rum and bourbon 🥃

A muhfucka needed that shit.

We saw the couple this morning before we came back to Brooklyn. She’s still devastated (obviously), but at least thanked us for doing what we could to salvage everything and for letting the ceremony go off well, cause had she found out that morning, there’s a 99.5% chance that wedding wouldn’t have happened.

A great day; a HORRIBLE night.
